There are a number of different Feng Shui systems that enable us to evaluate the qi within our environment. With an understanding of these systems, we can make the necessary adjustments to both minimise our exposure to any harmful or disruptive qi, and maximise our exposure to nourishing and supportive qi. Certain Feng Shui systems also enable us to assess our individual compatibility with our homes.
Form School ~ provides guidelines for how to position people and buildings within an environment; external landforms are referred to as the Black Tortoise, Green Dragon, White Tiger, and Red Bird; consideration is given to both external form (the position of the house in relation to landforms, watercourses, buildings, roads, pathways and other neighbourhood facilities), and internal form (the alignment of doors and windows, positioning of furniture, balance and proportionality).
Eight House/East West System ~ a basic Compass School/'Qi Distribution' method that divides the house into eight sectors, with the energy in each sector determined from the 'sitting' direction of the property; based on the eight trigrams; identifies four auspicious and four inauspicious areas within a house, with enhancements and corrections applied using the five elements; each person has their own trigram/'Ming Gua' (based on their date of birth) from which compatibility is assessed.
Time and Space Flying Stars ~ a sophisticated Compass School/'Qi Distribution' method that looks at how time and space affect your health, wealth and relationships, with a numeric qi pattern calculated according to the year the house was built and its sitting/facing directions; based on the movement of nine stars through the Luo Shu; reveals the basic character and influences of the property, with enhancements and corrections applied using the five elements, 'mountain' forms, and 'water' forms.
Other disciplines practised under the 'umbrella' of Feng Shui include:
Geopathic Stress (detection and treatment) ~ created by
distortions of the Earth's natural energy field; can lead to a weakening of the immune system; common indications include restless sleep, fatigue in the morning, and a general feeling of being run-down; can be detected via dowsing and treated using a process called 'earth acupuncture'.Electromagnetic Fields (surveys and advice) ~ electromagnetic fields from power lines and electrical appliances provide a modern day health hazard; detection of these fields with a professional field meter enables practical advice to be given to help you reduce your exposure to these fields.
